Abstract -- The main purpose of present study (2001-2006) is to enhance the accuracy of heavy rainfall forecast so as to reach the goal of disaster mitigation. The skills (methods) of rainfall estimation in Taiwan by small county area, quantitative precipitation on 0-3, 0-6, 0-12 and 0-24 will be established. The big differences between this stage and the previous one are to focus on developing the skill of quantitative precipitation prediction (QPF) in small area, the introduction of new schemes of QPF besides continuing test and improving the results developed in the previous study. To reach the automation of the operation skill/system is also one of the purposes of the present study.
The main task of the project office is to combine the research results of synoptic forcing, mesoscale climatology, model ensemble forecasting, the remote scheme of satellite and radar, conceptual model and artificial intelligence as well as the hard- and soft-ware of the monitoring rand forecasting which set up by the Central Weather Bureau of ROC to establish mesoscale forecasting system. We will complete the operation test through the QPF Exercise in Mei-Yu season, and transfer the skills to the operation units, for example, Central Weather Bureau.
