Abstract
-- The Taiwan Island is located at the junction of
the Philippine Plate and the Eurasian Plate and has frequently been
threaten by earthquakes. Furthermore, heavy rainfalls often resulted
in floods and debris flows and caused substantial losses in lives
and properties and damages to infrastructures.
The goal of this study is to work out a mechanism so information
related to natural
hazards can be better utilized in planning and designing infrastructures
so damages and/or losses can be minimized with emphasis on selection
of routes of, for examples, highways and sites of important facilities.
It is intended to establish a web-GIS based platform to facilitate
information sharing so various planners and designer can obtain
access to the most-updated information available. This will not
only streamline the process and shorten the time required for data
collection but also ensure the consistency of information. It will
also enable users to utilize the functions provided by GIS software
to better comprehend the information given.
